Gender Sensitivity is to be considerate of the opposite gender’s feelings. It is important because men and women think differently, and obviously, have different perspectives. Give respect to each other and live happily.
I interviewed Tanisha Venkani, a Master’s student at Azim Premji University, to share her views on the topic. She has previously worked in the domains of curriculum development and teacher training, and is a licensed career counselor. She has written thought-provoking articles for platforms like LiveWire, The Bastion, Education Brainiac, Youth Ki Awaaz, SheThePeopletv, Women’s Web etc.
Gender Inequality as per Wikipedia
In India, it is a multifaceted issue that concerns men and women. Some argue that various gender equality indices place men at a disadvantage. However, when India’s population is examined as a whole, women are at a disadvantage in several important ways. In India, discriminatory attitudes towards either sex have existed for generations and affect the lives of both sexes. Although the constitution of India grants men and women equal rights, gender disparities remain.
Research shows gender discrimination mostly in favor of men in many realms including the workplace.[4][5] Discrimination affects many aspects in the lives of women from career development and progress to mental health disorders. While Indian laws on rape, dowry and adultery have women’s safety at heart, these highly discriminatory practices are still taking place at an alarming rate, affecting the lives of many today.
Please share your thoughts on Gender Sensitivity. Do you think India is facing a problem of gender inequality? What should be done to eradicate this social problem?
