Almost every person who has access to the internet uses social media. With so many changes in the useability and functionality of social media, people have forgotten the right way to use and behave on different platforms. Keep a few things in your mind while using it responsibly.
Social Media: Things to Avoid
* You should never look for social validation. If you are running after social acceptance and general liking, you will spend a lot of time trying to impress others. By doing this, you are committing two blunders. First, you are relying on other people for your happiness, and second, you are decreasing self-esteem by letting others control how you should be.
* Never disclose your problems on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Although these are a platform used for sharing moments of happiness and sorrows, you should never reveal your weakness and problems in public. You never know how someone may use your problems or weakness against you. This might not be a frequent event, but always limit what you disclose about yourself in such platforms.
* Never disclose relationships on social media. Not disclosing relationships does not mean that you hide your marriage or siblings. However, if you are into a relationship with someone, you should keep it a secret and not disclose it on social media. You may disclose the relationship if it is serious, but if your relationship is in the initial phase, you should keep it a secret.
* Do not disclose sensitive personal details. Many platforms ask for your details, but they keep it secured. However, you always have an option to disclose sensitive personal information like your phone number and address. If gone into wrong hands, these details can be misused, and you can face a lot of trouble. Thus, it is always recommended to keep your privacy intact.
Conclusion
In conclusion, you should not only limit your social media usage but also limit what you share on social media. Sharing sensitive information like personal details, relationship details, and emotional weakness makes you vulnerable on social media, and some people can misuse it against you.
